So everyone thinks they are an expert on nutrition. If this is the case why is the rise in health related diseases escalating at an alarming rate and at a disturbingly young age? Information is power but we also need to understand a small bit of the psychology behind our eating behaviours. What influences our eating behaviours? In this lesson we will be exploring cognitive behavioural change in order to effectively change ours and other’s behaviours. At the end of the day there is no point having all of this knowledge if you can’t put it into practise and help yourself and others. Most people do not know where to start when reading food labels and as a result can often make poor food choices. This lesson will ensure that you can interpret the confusing information on everything you eat empowering you to take control of what goes into your body. Knowledge is power!
So at this stage you will be equipped with significant nutritional knowledge. It is important to be aware of how our food is affected from “farm to fork” particularly in today’s fast food dependent society. Fast food is heavily relied on in today’s society but it is important to be aware of the detrimental health risks associated with fast food. Home cooking is preferential, however, a lot of people are not aware that even if you cook from scratch you can significantly decrease food’s nutritional content depending on how you prepare food and which cooking method you use. Cooking food can kill its nutrients. In this lesson you will gain practical tips on how to prepare and cook your food to maintain maximum nutritional content. You will also learn how to make healthy foods tasty and recipes will be given. As eating out is a huge social activity which many people struggle with when it comes to “being healthy”, practical advice and tips will be provided so that you can apply your new found nutritional knowledge to all environments. Finally it is important to be aware of some special diets which need specific attention and here you will learn how to cater for vegetarians, lactose intolerant and coeliac.

I decided to look into doing a nutrition course following my heart Transplant. Shaw Academy’s course meant I could learn at home at my own pace. The course has been fantastic on many different levels.
I enjoyed the course, learned more than I thought. It felt like you cared for your students, with calls and emails, so it was good!
The course was well structured, researched and communicated and Michelle is fantastic! The additional support from the Shaw Academy has been very impressive.
I really enjoyed the personal nutrition course. I applied to take the course as I have an interest in nutrition and wanted to expand my knowledge.
I thoroughly enjoyed the nutritional course. The support is fantastic, proactive and very approachable. I enjoyed it so much that I am going to follow the advanced course and help people to help them with their nutrition.
Whether it's for personal or professional reasons , I feel everyone would benefit from doing this course.
Just to let you know I've signed up for the lifetime membership. I purchased the Nutrition course from a Group Scheme in work for €9 so definitely getting my money’s worth. I'm actually doing a part-time course with another college at the moment and I find it nowhere near as professional or enjoyable as the Shaw Academy.
